GUY BOTTERILL AND VACEY-LYLE CLINCH S1600 VICTORY IN SA CHAMPIONSHIP RALLY
It was an elated Guy Botterill who shared his experiences after winning the S1600 overall in the SA Championship event held in Cape Town this weekend. “It was such a gratifying moment to spray the champagne from the first step of the podium,” said Guy. “I think in particular, it was also a sign of how well Simon is doing on the SA Championship in the navigator’s seat after his accident in the S2000 last year. He is confident, he know the rules well and this event was particularly fast with blind rises, and I certainly never once doubted an instruction,” he added.
The pairing won the first special stage on Thursday evening at the Cape Gate Shopping Centre, and went on to win two stages on Friday and a further two on Saturday. “The car was in superb condition, we never had any problems. I was very chuffed that I could show my ability to run at the same pace as Ashleyi in his home event. “The event was particularly well organised, and there were hundreds of spectators along the route, and I think the Organising Committee need to be congratulated on the superb roads and the smooth running of the event.”
The Cape Toyota Dealer Rally was won overall by Johnny Gemmell and Carolyn Swan, and with Guy Botterill and Simon Vacey-Lyle clinching the S1600 honours, it was a memorable event for Toyota. It is not often that a sponsor wins their own event.
The next event will be held in Polokwane on 5 and 6 October.
