Habig exits Wales Rally GB

South Africa’s Jannie Habig’s participation in the WRC Wales Rally GB came to a sad end this morning when the car left the road and landed in a ditch.

Habig had started the second day of the rally on the Crychan 1 stage running second on the road in very foggy conditions.
Habig said afterwards that he went into a corner to fast. The car left the road and slid backwards into a ditch. He and his co-driver, Robbie Durant, tried to get the car out of the ditch onto the road to be able to continue.

They could not get the car out of the ditch and lost a huge amount of time and Habig decided that it would be useless to continue.

A very disappointed Habig has approached the organizers to allow him to re-enter the rally again tomorrow under Superally rules.

He was 18th overall at the overnight stop last night after he had a difficult first day coming to grips with the car on the wet and muddy and very fast Welsh roads.
