Hlubi Mboya to compete in Vryburg 450

Leading South African actress and AIDS ambassador Hlubi Mboya will be the next celebrity to have a taste of racing in the Donaldson Cross Country Championship – and faces a tough act to follow in the Imperial Auto Celebrity Challenge.

The 36-year-old actress, best known for her role as Nandipha Sithole in the Isidingo soapie, will co-drive for Terence Marsh in the Imperial Auto Nissan Navara on the Vryburg 450, round six of the Donaldson championship, in the North West on September 12 and 13. Last time out on the Force Fuel 450 at Sun City celebrity co-drivers John Smit and Jeannie D both picked up top 10 finishes with Mike Whitehouse and Marsh.

Hlubi, who was educated at Rustenburg High School, is a former Strictly Come Dancing contestant and last year had a starring role in the SABC 1 drama Mfolozi. She has also featured on the covers of True Love and Elle – and was the first non model black woman to appear on the cover of Elle.

The talented actress will also bring a touch of glamour to the Vryburg 450. She has five times been ranked as one of the 100 sexiest women in the world by FHM magazine.

“We have had a number of test sessions with Hlubi, and she is very confident in the car,” said Marsh. “That is a good sign, and I am sure she will do well.

“The motivation behind the Imperial Auto Celebrity Challenge has always been to spread our sport’s message to a wider audience. That has happened through the sportsmen and sportswomen and the entertainment celebrities that have competed in events throughout the country.

“With Hlubi joining the impressive list of stars like Jonty Rhodes, Stefan Terblanche, Jeannie D, Barry Hilton and others we are opening up a whole new avenue that will also keep the social media buzzing.”

Race headquarters, the start/finish and the designated service point for the Vryburg 450 will all be based at the Vryburg Motor Club on the outskirts of the North West town. The qualifying race to determine grid positions will start at 11:30 on September 12 and the race at 8:30 the following day.

Public access to race headquarters and spectator points along the route is free of charge. Spectator guides will also be available at race headquarters.
