The 2014 Donaldson National Cross-Country Motor Racing championship moves into second half of the season as teams line up for the start of the Force Fuel 450 in Sun City next weekend. The Elegant Fuel racing team head into the event aiming to continue their current form.

The team is headed up by Quintin and Karl Heinz Sullwald in the Elegant Fuel BAT Venom, the duo are both multiple South African National Champions and head into the event leading the 2014 championship. They are backed up by Wichard Sullwald and Byron Sykes in the Elegant Fuel STRYKER, Wichard a former South African Champion in his own right burst onto the driving scene with an impressive first time out win on the gruelling Toyota 1000 Desert Race last time out. He is joined by his brother-in-law for the first time as Byron makes his Donaldson Championship debut.

It will be a matter of revenge for Quintin and Karl-Heinz Sullwald as they will be looking to make up for the disappointment they suffered on the Desert Race where they dominated most of the event, leading until electrical problems put a stop to their race 45km from the finish.

“We need to start the second half of the season on a clean slate. A good qualifying result is going to be essential to secure a good finish. We are not looking to consolidate yet as so many things can change with four races remaining, we will be aiming for nothing less than the overall win.” commented Quintin.

Wichard Sullwald and Byron Sykes are looking for a solid finish and valuable seat time as the duo get to grips with one another. Byron jumped at the opportunity to navigate when Hermann Sullwald announced his retirement from racing after the Desert Race.

“It’s going to take us both some time to get used to each other and for Byron to learn what the race car is capable of doing. I look forward to the challenge and can’t wait to get behind the wheel again.” concluded Wichard.

The race gets underway on Friday afternoon with crews competing in a 100km qaulifing race to determine start order for the race proper. The main event gets underway on Saturday from the Sun City complex at 8:30 with teams facing two 175km loops making up the 350km race distance.

Elegant Fuel Cross-Country Motor Racing Team is further supported by Sullwald Projects, Faith Wheels, Limpopo Tyres (Polokwane), Oil Shoppe (Polokwane) and Wetherd Designs
