This weekend marks the half way mark of the Donaldson National Cross-Country Motor Racing Championship. The Elegant Fuel team head into the event with high hopes to gain an advantage in the overall championship and lay the foundations for the rest of the season.

The Elegant Fuel entry again consists of multiple South African champions Quintin and Karl-Heinz Sullwald in the Elegant Fuel BAT Venom and former champions Hermann and Wichard Sullwald in the Elegant Fuel STRYKER. There has however been some changes in the Sullwald Racing camp as Wichard Sullwald has entered as a driver for the first time. This will see him become the current youngest driver in the premier Special Vehicle class

Quintin and Kallie will be hoping to build on their current form after dominating the previous event in Malalane where they took a flag to flag victory and had more than 10 minutes to spare over their closest rivals and current championship leaders Gerhard and Hardus du Plessis. The Desert has been a favourite for the Sullwald’swho have tasted success on this marathon event twice.

“The Toyota Desert is by far my favourite event of the championship. It’s the longest and toughest race for man and machine and a true test of both. The crowds are spectacular and the people of Botswana are extremely welcoming. I can’t wait to go out onto this new route and kick up some Botswana dust.” commented Quintin

Wichard and Hermann in the Elegant Fuel STRYKER are hoping for a strong finish. The Desert race is not won by pure pace alone and sometimes it’s better backing off just enough to make it to the finish in a strong position. They are both no stranger to the top step of the podium in Botswana as they romped home to an easy win in 2013.

“This is going to be a big learning curve for me, I don’t expect to be on the front runners pace from the start but would really like to complete the distance and get the mileage under the belt. For us finishing under the top five would be as good as a win and that’s what we need to aim for this weekend.” commented Wichard

The weekend gets underway on Friday afternoon with a 100km qualifying race to determine the start order. This is followed by two days of intense racing over more than 900km to fight for overall honours on the event.

Elegant Fuel Cross-Country Motor Racing Team is further supported by Sullwald Projects, Faith Wheels, Limpopo Tyres (Polokwane), Oil Shoppe (Polokwane) and Wetherd Designs
