TOUGH DAY AT THE OFFICE FOR CLASS G CONTINGENT ON TOYOTA DEALER 450, AND TOP CREWS DOMINATE ROUND TWO OF KZN CROSS COUNTRY SERIES

Mooi River, Saturday – It was a tough day at the office for crews competing in the new Class G, or Side by Side, category on the Toyota Dealer 450, round two of the Donaldson Cross Country Championship which ended here today.

The national event was run in conjunction with the second round of the KwaZulu-Natal Cross Country Championship, with national championship regulars dominating. A tight and tough route took its toll on the Class G contingent where there were only three finishers.

Class G is officially part of the Donaldson Cross Country Championship for the first time this season, and is designed to attract new competitors to cross country racing. The Polaris RZR and Can-Am Maverick vehicles are the only cars eligible for the category, with competitors completing the qualifying race and 50 percent or one loop of national races.

Today’s win went to the Regent Racing Polaris crew of Brian Capper and Jaco Swart ahead of Leander Pienaar and Stephan Marais in a Can-Am Maverick. Pienaar and Carl Swanepoel won the opening event of the season but were well beaten, with Trevor Ahier/Raul Gomes (Polaris) completing the finishers list.

National series regulars Lance Trethewey and Geoff Minnitt (LTE BAT Venom) just edged out another Donaldson pair in Clint Gibson and Gary Campbell in the Dirt Sport Component Porter in the KZN regional overall and Class A results. Only 11 seconds separated the two crews.

Third were Don Thomson and Graeme Petersen (Zarco Lite) who came in ahead of Daniel Brooke and Gavan Gray, who also compete nationally, in the Ducatis Property BAT. The top five was rounded out by Reg Sutton and Warren Beneke in a Zarco Magnum.

Class B honours went to Marcus Taylor and Trace Pricemoor in a JRE. In a close finish they were just 10 seconds ahead of James Watson and John Thompson (BAT), with Iain Mclean and Luke van Doort (Zarco Lite) around six minutes in arrears in third place.
