PIENAAR/ MARAIS WIN CLASS G QUALIFYING RACE AT TOYOTA DEALER 450
Mooi River, Friday – Leander Pienaar and Stephan Marais got their weekend off to a flying start when they won the Class G qualifying race to determine grid positions for tomorrow’s Toyota Dealer 450 here.
The event is round two of the Donaldson Cross Country Championship with Class G, also known as Side by Side, a new category in the national series. The category is aimed at bringing new competitors into cross country racing, and is open to Polaris RZR and Can-Am Maverick vehicles.
Pienaar, who won the opening event of the season with Carl Swanepoel, and Marais dominated proceedings to finish comfortably clear of Brian Capper and Jaco Swart in the Regent Racing Polaris. Capper and Swart, however, were under huge pressure from Gareth Woolridge and Simon Harrison in another Polaris with only eight seconds separating the two crews.
The Class G contingent will complete one lap of tomorrow’s race with the Production Vehicle and Special Vehicle categories completing two laps.
Race headquarters, the start/finish and the designated service point for the Toyota Dealer 450 are all located at the Weston Agriculture College on the outskirts of Mooi River. Public access to these areas and spectator points along the route is free of charge with the race starting at 8:30.
