TAYLOR/BIRKIN TAKE CHARGE OF TOYOTA 1 000 DESERT RACE
Gaborone, Sunday - The Team Castrol Toyota crew of Anthony Taylor and Chris Birkin had a tight hold on the Production Vehicle category on the final day of the Toyota Desert Race here today.
At the end of the first of the two loops making up today’s final racing section, Taylor and Birkin had a lead of 11 minutes over the Team Ford Ranger TDCI of reigning South African champions Chris Visser and Japie Badenhorst. Third were the father and son combination of Hugo and Jaap de Bruyn in the Micaren Exel Toyota Hilux who were a further 13 minutes in arrears.
On the Special vehicle front reigning South African champions Kallie and Quintin Sullwald (Elegant Fuel BAT) had moved ahead of overnight leaders Evan Hutchison and Danie Stassen in the Motorite Revo. At the halfway point the Motorite pair were two minutes and six seconds behind the current championship leaders with Johan van Staden and James Rossouw thitd in the Atlas Copco BAT.
The race ends at Kumakwane later this afternoon.
