 Score with the Fire Stryker
story by: Roadworx Communications 10 June 2010

With the Fire Stryker now on the shelves at ATS there is really no excuse for not carrying an extinguisher in your car.

Modern technology has changed the face of fire-fighting and nowhere is it more evident than in the Fire Stryker: it weighs less, is far smaller, and requires no maintenance...yet performs significantly better than a conventional dry powder or foam extinguisher. Not only is it suitable for almost every type of fire but is also extremely safe as the contents aren’t pressurised as with a conventional extinguisher.

Not much larger in diameter than a broomstick and between 25 and 33 cm long (depending on model) Fire Stryker uses a blast of potassium nitrate to effectively kill a fire in one easy step. Potassium oxidizes rapidly in air: when the seal on the Fire Stryker is broken it releases its contents, and devours the oxygen in the immediate vicinity and in so doing deprives the fire of the oxygen necessary for it to burn.

The 8B model – designed for in-car usage - has an emission time of 50 seconds yet weighs only 275 grams and can be kept in the glove compartment or door pocket, or alternatively attached to any flat surface inside the vehicle with the supplied mounting bracket.
The flagship 13B model lasts for close to 100 seconds while the compact and ultra lightweight 5B model will last for 25, often critical, seconds.

"Safety in the broader automotive context has always been an important part of the ATS business philosophy and the Fire Stryker brings an affordable and practical fire-fighting device well within the reach of every motorist," says ATS CEO Richard Leeke. "It is highly effective yet isn’t compromised by the bulk and weight of a traditional extinguisher making it far easier to keep in a handy and accessible place in a car."

The Fire Stryker is also ideal for the kitchen; not to mention the garage, workshop or office and having one to hand could be a real life-saver. Medical professionals talk about the Golden Hour in terms of stabilising a patient, but when it comes to fighting a fire it is the first few seconds which are vitally important in preventing a blaze from taking hold.

Using Fire Stryker is as quick and easy as striking an oversized match: while holding the plastic handle simply pull off the protective cap, remove the ‘striker’ from the other end and strike it against the front of the tube to start ignition.

With a five year warranty, certification from a number of international organisations, approval from the South African Maritime Safety Authority and having been tested locally by the South African Bureau of Standards, ATS is confident that the Fire Stryker is the answer when a portable, practical and light fire-fighting solution is needed.

Prices start from R343 inclusive of VAT with the mid-sized Fire Stryker 8B being offered at a special launch price of R400. Contact ATS on 011 670 8400 for more information.
