TOP ACTOR TAKES UP CROSS COUNTRY RACING
Actor Deon Coetzee, of 7deLaan and Egoli fame is the latest convert to the Donaldson Cross Country Championship.
Coetzee will make his debut at this weekend’s Atlas Copco Gold 400, the final round of the Donaldson series, in Westonaria. He will co-drive for former Class B champion, Derick du Toit, in the BAT previously campaigned in Atlas Copco colours by Johan van Staden and Mike Lawrenson.
Coetzee, who plays the role of Herman Croukamp in 7deLaan, is also a former provincial rugby player. It is likely that he will join du Toit, a Cape based businessman, in the car on a permanent basis next season.
“Deon and I have been friends for many years and I challenged him at a recent golf day in Ceres to come racing with me,” said du Toit. “His reply was that he was born to go racing, so we’ll put that to the test over the weekend.
“He had a lengthy training stint in the car with Johan earlier this week and enjoyed himself, and if all goes well this weekend we will compete together for the whole of next year’s championship.”
The Atlas Copco Gold 400 will be based at the Kloof Country Club in Glenharvie. GPS Location: S 26 23 09.65 E 27 37 06.96. Access to race headquarters, the start/finish and designated service point is free to the public.
There is also free access to spectator points along the route with spectator guides available at race headquarters.
