Ford Ready to Shine at Carnival City
• Strong Ford support expected at 4x4 Megaworld 400
• Ford crews eye podium places
• Everything to play for with just two rounds remain following the 4x4 Megaworld race
PRETORIA, South Africa, 24 August, 2012 Team Ford Racing is eagerly anticipating round six of the Absa Off Road Championship, the 4x4 Megaworld 400. The event takes place on the weekend of 30 August and 01 September within easy reach of Ford’s manufacturing base in Silverton and many of the Ford dealerships in Gauteng.
The team is looking forward to strong support from the Ford fans and is eager to reward them with a podium position. Despite a string of unfortunate mishaps the team has been on the pace all season and is looking to translate that pace into firm results.
Chris Visser and Japie Badenhorst in their Class SP Ford Ranger are currently lying third in the championship and are hungry for a strong finish.
“Last year we didn’t finish so this year we definitely have a point to prove,” explains Visser. “We’ve had a bit of a frustrating run. We’ve had the pace but due to small niggling problems every race we haven’t got the results we would have liked. We hope to turn that around at Carnival City.”
While Visser and Badenhorst will be looking to make amends for a non-finish last year teammates Lance Woolridge and Ward Huxtable will be looking to do just the opposite. A second place finish on last year’s event proved historic as Woolridge became the youngest driver to achieve an overall and Class SP podium.
“Last year was a very memorable occasion and this year we are hoping to once again finish strongly. Carnival City always enjoys a strong turn out and this year we are expecting to see a lot of Ford staff and Ford fans in the crowd. We’ll definitely do our best to give them something to shout about,” says Woolridge.
This year’s event is expected to be technically difficult for the drivers while still providing excellent spectator value for the many fans who attend. The action gets underway at 12h30 on Friday 31 August with the race getting underway at 08h30 on Saturday 1 September.
Team Ford Racing’s efforts would not be possible without the support of its dedicated sponsors BP, Castrol, Innovation Group, Motorvia, Sign Solutions and Time Freight.
